The Honorable Eduardo Aguirre, U.S. Ambassador to Spain
The Dallas Regional Chamber was proud to welcome The Honorable Rick Perry, Governor of the State of Texas and The Honorable Eduardo Aguirre, U.S. Ambassador to Spain, to an evening reception Monday, May 12th. Mr. Ambassador brought 20 companies from Spain to visit the North Texas region May 11-13 to foster business relationships between Texas and Spain. The Governor and Ambassador spoke on the fruitful collaborations of the regions and their hopes for it's continuation and growth in the future.

8th Annual State of Technology Luncheon & Innovation Showcase "Mission Possible: The New Age of Security"
The 8th Annual State of Technology Luncheon, hosted by the Dallas Regional Chamber's Technology Business Council, was held on Thursday, May 8th. The program featured Entrust Chairman, President and CEO, F. William Conner, Microsoft Corporation Senior Security Strategist, Kai Axford and Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Robert Schuett. The panelists discussed the evolution of security and new advancements in the industry. An Innovation Showcase hosted more than 40 companies' cutting-edge products and services, offering attendees a hands-on experience with inventions emerging in the region.

The Dallas Regional Chamber and Mayor Tom Leppert hosted a briefing with H.E. Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, President of The United Mexican States. Top CEOs from the Dallas region, Mexico and Mexican government officials discussed pertinent issues related to the North Texas – Mexico relationship. Assistant Secretary Julie L. Myers
On April 9th, the Dallas Regional Chamber hosted the head of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Assistant Secretary Julie L. Myers, for a keynote address on immigration enforcement trends. In a rare visit to North Texas, Myers message to attendees was that ICE plans to diligently continue its increased efforts against employers who hire illegal immigrants and attempt to tilt the playing field to their advantage in this way.

The 2008 Annual Meeting presented by Comerica Bank, was held January 18th. It is one of the largest events of the year and highlighted the Chamber's 2007 accomplishments and outlined future priorities.

Welcome Blackberry!
The Dallas Regional Chamber is pleased to announce that Blackberry maker, Research In Motion Limited (RIM) (Nasdaq:RIMM) has selected Irving, Texas as its U.S. headquarters. RIM is expected to employ over 1,000 people in the region over the next several years, including roles in research and development, technical support, business operations and administration.

Mayor's Address to the Business Community
Over 250 members of the Dallas Regional Chamber convened for a luncheon on November 27th featuring Dallas’ Mayor Tom Leppert. Mayor Leppert gave Chamber members an inspiring vision of Dallas with top notch schools, much needed southern area development, a great arts district and a vibrant downtown where you would want to live with your family.

The 2007 International Business Achievement Awards featured a fireside chat with 2007 award recipients: Stanley Rabin, Chairman, Commercial Metals Company; Gabriel Barbier-Mueller, President and CEO, Harwood International; and Satish Gupta, President, SB International, Inc. Issues addressed included the methods by which these award-winning pioneers in global success manage to remain competitive in the face of a challenging global marketplace; why these companies and individuals have chosen to continually grow their businesses from the DFW region; and what Dallas/Fort Worth can do to ensure that the region is known for global successes and competitiveness while retaining the presence of globally-minded companies and individuals.

Congressional Forum Lunch
The Dallas Regional Chamber hosted members of the Dallas/Fort Worth Congressional delegation at the 2007 Congressional Forum on Thursday August 23rd. The speakers featured at the Congressional Forum were Congressman Joe Barton, Congressman Chet Edwards, Congressman Ralph Hall, Congressmen Jeb Hensarling and Congressman Pete Sessions. The Forum highlighted the impact of federal issues on area businesses with topics such as, transportation needs and funding, immigration, higher education and healthcare.

Mayoral Run-Off Candidate Forum
On May 17, the Dallas Regional Chamber hosted the first Mayoral Run-Off Candidate Forum with Tom Leppert & Ed Oakley at the Hotel Crescent Court. This forum allowed attendees to have an exclusive opportunity to hear from the run-off candidates for Dallas Mayor, Tom Leppert and Ed Oakley. Both Mr. Leppert and Mr. Oakley addressed concerns that face business.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates Luncheon
The Dallas Regional Chamber hosted United States Secretary of Defense Dr. Robert M. Gates on Thursday May 3, 2007 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel Secretary Gates discussed current defense issues in a broad historical and global context. This was Secretary Gates' first address to Dallas audiences since being appointed. This luncheon also served as the Dallas Regional Chamber's second quarter membership meeting.
